Malta Olympic Committee News: Olympic Day Run 2006

The Olympic Day Run is taking place next Sunday, 25 June, which will consist of three routes 2.5K, 5K and 10K starting from Spinola Bay, St Julian’s at 8.30am. Both cyclist and running enthusiasts are encouraged to join.

The objective of this run/cycle is to celebrate the existence of the Olympic Movement which celebrates its anniversary on 23 June. This celebration is carried out worldwide by various National Olympic Committees with the organising of an Olympic Day Run.

Applications have been received from a number of groups including a group of 40 who will be running for Razzett Tal-Hbiberija; a group of 8 representing the Deaf Sports Association will have members cycling and running. The Kilmanjaro Challenge Group 3 will be taking part too.

Running clubs as usual will dominate and 40 runners from the Zurrieq Wolves have been confirmed. The Cycling Federation has made great efforts to encourage its members Pamson Cycling Club, Qormi Cycling Club and the Mosta Cycling Club who will have in the region of 30 cyclists showing their support; last and not least the Life Cycle group consisting of over 50 cyclists will include the Olympic Day Run 10k route as part of their training preparations.

The MOC invites the general public to come along and support the runners and cyclists on the route and to show their support for Sport and the Olympic Movement. More information can be obtained from our website www.nocmalta.org or by email [email protected].
