Snooker: Alex Borg Back in WPBSA Main Tour after receiving wild card

Malta Independent Thursday, 22 June 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

Malta champion Alex Borg will once again take part in the WPBSA’s Main Tour next season after having received a wild card from the world association.

Last season, he just failed to clinch an automatic spot as he finished 73rd, while the WPBSA retains the top 72.

He and Tony Drago, who will possibly start the season ranked 67th, will be Malta’s flag-bearers once again in the world of snooker next season.

Borg won the European Championship for a second consecutive time last week in Costanta, Romania, and that helped a lot towards the WPBSA awarding the wild card to Borg.

The first commitment for Drago and Borg will be in next month’s Northern Ireland Open raking tournament – the first time such a tournament is being organised. Drago will start in the second round, while Borg will start in the first round.

Borg said yesterday his aim next season will be that of finishing in the top 72 and possibly among the top 64.
