Malta Independent Tuesday, 27 June 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

A magistrate yesterday ordered that there were enough reasons for a bill of indictment to be issued against Norman Lowell who is facing criminal proceedings for inciting racial hatred.

Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera issued this order after listening to Superintendent Peter Paul Zammit testifying that he was ordered to investigate Mr Lowell in connection with articles on website Viva Malta and over speeches he delivered during events in Qawra and in Rabat.

He said he downloaded two videos from the website as well as articles which contained messages which incite racial hatred.

Police inspector George Cremona testified that Mr Lowell confirmed that the footage in those videos was shot during the said events.

Magistrate Scerri Herrera ordered that there was enough evidence for a bill of indictment to be issued against Mr Lowell.

Police superintendent Peter Paul Zammit and police inspectors Angelo Caruana and George Cremona prosecuted while Dr Emmy Bezzina appeared for the defendant.
