Exchange Of ideas and practices on apprenticeships

Malta Independent Wednesday, 28 June 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

A group of executives within the Employment and Training Corporation have returned from a weeklong exchange visit in Munich as part of a Leonardo mobility project of the European Union.

The aim of the visit was to generate discussions on new forms of apprenticeship schemes, to raise their quality, encourage mobility of apprentices, develop strategies for training and enhance the role of social partners. The partners of the Corporation in this initiative include the General Workers Union, the Union Haddiema Maghqudin, the Institute of Tourism Studies and the Malta Employers Association. The German counterpart in this project is Landeshauptstadt Munchen Schul – und Kultusreferat.

Apprenticeship schemes serve to create a pool of persons with knowledge and skills that meet current and future labour market requirements and in turn reduce the number of economically unproductive, registered unemployed persons.

A second group of employees of the ETC will be visiting Munich in autumn.
