Summer Fitness for kids at ‘Skolasport’

Malta Independent Saturday, 1 July 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 21 years ago

The Kunsill Malti ghall-iSport has extended its Skolasport initiative to include a programme called Summer on the Move. This has been in operation for three years and each year has been an improvement on the previous one as a result of listening to what children want, and to the needs of the parents.

The finished product is an eight week programme offering a full range of activities, a child care centre, discounts for multiple children and even a fitness session for parents if they wish to join in.

Children take part in sporting activities only, for example, the 4-10 year olds can enjoy pool activities such as swimming, water games, diving and waterpolo, while the indoor sports include football, tag-rugby, athletics, basketball, volleyball, handball, educational gymnastics, dance and fun games.

The 11-16 year olds can choose the above games as well as a selection of adventure sports which include go-karting, sailing, beach games, treasure hunts, kayaking and other new initiatives. If there is enough interest this year camping and abseiling will be included.

Another advantage is the opportunity to choose from 3-5 days each week to suit the needs of the family. For further information one may contact Tanya Zahra, Sports Programme Coordinator, at Kunsill Malti ghall-iSport, Cottonera Sports Complex, on 21-660658/9 or email: [email protected].
