Malta Olympic Committee News: International coaching course in Hungary

The International Coaching Courses (ICC) offered by Semmelweis University through the Institute of Coach and Sport Education in Budapest, Hungary has announced their course programme for March – June 2007.

To-date eight Maltese nationals have been awarded an Olympic Solidarity scholarship through the assistance of the Malta Olympic Committee, to attend these courses for a period of three months. Currently, Gordon Camenzuli from the Malta Triathlon Assocation, who was awarded a three-month scholarship, for a special course in triathlon allowing him to focus on theory, methods, practice and training planning in the application areas, is currently in Hungary completing his course.

These courses are recognized by the IOC and IOC President Jacques Rogge has expressed the importance of the coaches’ training and for the development of sport and has ensured the continuous support of coaches from developing countries, hence the support of Olympic Solidarity.

Courses available for the period March – June 2007 will include an International Coaching Course (21 March– 13 June 2007) in the following disciplines: Track & Field Athletics (General), Basketball, Boxing, Fencing, Football, Gymnastics (men), Handball, Table Tennis and Waterpolo; and a special course in Kayak-Canoe (21 March – 13 June 2007): International Coaching course combined with special programme introducing the preparation of the top Hungarian kayak-canoe athletes and the national team of Hungary. The deadline for applications is 1 November 2006.

The Malta Olympic Committee is receiving applications for those applicants wishing to obtain an Olympic Solidarity Scholarship.

Certain conditions, restrictions apply and there is no guarantee that a scholarship will be awarded. Preconditions for those applying for a scholarship include, working experience in the respective sport field; recommendation from the Malta Olympic Committee and the respective National Sport Federation; sufficient knowledge of English language; physical fitness (participation in practical classes); good health; leave for the period in question; a contract with the respective association that on completion a certain period of time will be volunteered to render a service.
