A weekly series of four golden silent films are to be projected in the courtyard of the Manoel Theatre this month. As in the days when they were originally shown, the films will be given a vibrant dramatic input by the inclusion of live music.
The first of these films, the powerful The Passion of Joan of Arc (1928) will be showing on Tuesday at 9pm.
Musicians Alex Vella Gregory (organ) and John McDonough (oboe, cor-anglais and bassoon) will be heightening the drama of the already gripping golden silent, the last film directed by Carl Theodor Dreyer, that features actors Maria Falconetti, Eugene Silvain and Antonin Artaud. The running time is 110 minutes.
Tickets, at Lm2, can be purchased from the Manoel Theatre booking office.
