Hastings Garden in Valletta was officially opened by Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi on Thursday evening after an embellishment project costing Lm350,000.

In his address to the gathering, Resources and Infrastructure Minister Ninu Zammit said that over the past three years the government had invested heavily in rehabilitating the capital city.

The work carried out at Hastings Garden, that included the restoration of the surrounding bastions and the installation of an irrigation system, had been carried out by ministry employees.

The minister said that the watchtower had been rebuilt and a water fountain had been constructed in one of the open spaces in the garden.

He added that over the next few months the government will be continuing its restoration programme, as a number of monuments will be embellished while other parts of the Valletta bastions will also be restored.
