With on-stage pyrotechnics and unparalleled sound, lights and projections, NnG Promotions have promised that Monday’s Roger Waters show will not be a concert, but rather “an incredible spectacle, not to be missed”.
As Malta looks forward to the musical and visual extravaganza, the organisers are hard at work tweaking the infrastructural set-up at the Luxol Grounds and meeting Roger Waters’ exacting stage details.
Speaking earlier this week, NnG’s Anton Attard explained that, as far as local concerts go, Monday’s gig promises to be of the highest calibre seen to date in terms of technical specifications on lights, video, sound and stage pyrotechnics, for which the former Pink Floyd co-frontman and songwriter is renowned.
All such technical specifications for the night, down to the smallest of stage details, have been stipulated by Roger Waters and his team.
And for those who on the night do not manage to position themselves right up front, a number of screens will be set up so that everyone will be able to enjoy the show to its full extent, although the stage performance and accompanying projections are expected to be on such a scale that they will be clearly visible to all and sundry.
The sound system being set up will ensure that “it will be like you are sitting in your living room with a surround sound system,” according to Mr Attard.
Monday’s event will consist of two sets, with a 15-minute break in between. While the first hour-and-a-quarter set will be a mixture of the best of Pink Floyd from albums such as The Wall, Animals and Wish You Were Here, a couple of Roger Waters solo tracks are also being thrown in for good measure. The second 45-minute set, meanwhile, will be a full rendition of the Pink Floyd classic album Dark Side of the Moon. Five encore tracks have also been selected, which will extend the concert by another 20 minutes.
The organisers have appealed to the public to be as punctual as possible after the interval, as Roger Waters is known to be fastidious about sticking to his schedule.
Bringing an artist of Roger Waters’ standing to Malta is undoubtedly a great feat for NnG, which pulled off the Sting concert less than a month ago with great success, and as the company takes over the running of this year’s Malta Jazz Festival.
His appearance in Malta is an even more notable achievement considering the fact that he does not tour very much. In fact, many fans are said to be making the trip to Malta for Monday’s concert from Germany, the UK, Austria and Greece. Former Marillion vocalist Fish and Billy Connolly, who are also part-time residents of Malta, are among the foreign celebrities who will be enjoying the show.
Building on its experience from previous concerts, NnG is also making a number of logistical improvements at the gates, as well as providing more space for VIPs, more bars, toilets and food stalls. The organisers have also worked hand-in-hand with all the authorities such as the Civil Protection Department, the police and medics to ensure safe surroundings for the crowds.
While nearly all the VIP tickets have been scooped up, sales of standard tickets are said to have reached the 10,000 mark – a number that is increasing every day.
