Maltese, German and Italian schoolchildren have produced a colourful storybook called Dinja Magika (A Magical World). Around 60 Year 4 students from Tumas Dingli primary school in Attard participated in a story-writing project as part of the Comenius project. The children wrote three stories in English, which were then translated in their respective languages.
Apart from the Maltese school, Germany’s Volksschule Würzburg-Heuchelhof (Grundschule) and Italy’s Direzione Didattica Omegna 1 Circolo were involved in the publication. The aim of the project is to teach the students to write short stories and to increase their knowledge of foreign people, ideas and cultures.
Earlier this year, the book was launched during a presentation by headmaster Mario Testa in the presence of Education Minister Louis Galea. Mr Testa said that “the project provided another opportunity to the children to learn about cultures and traditions of other European countries.”
Minister Galea praised this initiative and said that EU programmes are having a positive impact on children, who are being more exposed to diversity. The fruits of these initiatives will be reaped in the future, he added.
