Voices 2006 On the theme ‘One Family’

Malta Independent Wednesday, 12 July 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

The biennial Voices music concert will be held over 10 nights between 4 and 15 October, the organisers said yesterday

The theme this year is One Family, the idea being to promote the concept of the community as one family rather than individual units, said spokesman Adrian Mamo.

Family and Social Solidarity Minister Dolores Cristina said that in an ideal world, we would be there for one another and become less individualistic.

Mr Mamo added that the family is very important for Voices, since members, who sing on a voluntary basis, feel that they are part of a big family made up of people from different walks of life.

Vodafone Malta Foundation is the main sponsor of the event and chairperson Gemma Mifsud Bonnici pointed out that the foundation’s motto A passion for life, is highly relevant to the concept behind Voices.

Mr Mamo remembered Voices co-founder the late Louis Naudi, who certainly had a passion for life.

Voices concerts have to date raised Lm320,000 in aid of charitable institutions both locally and internationally. The main beneficiaries this year will be locally-based, Mr Mamo said.

The organisers are also mounting a photographic exhibition of the work of acclaimed photographer Uwe Ommer, who travelled to take shots of various families, the collection of which is found in 1000 Families: The Family Album of Planet Earth.

The event will be sponsored by Vodafone Malta Foundation, Nestle, Simonds Farsons Cisk plc, Bank of Valletta, Island Caterers Hotels Group, P. Cutajar, Salvu Grima Group, XFM and Roland Keyboards.
