The international institute for Baroque studies within the University of Malta, in conjunction with the works division within the Ministry for Resources and Infrastructure, is organising a one-year part-time pre-tertiary certificate course in Baroque architecture starting in October.
The course is designed to provide an understanding of materials and construction techniques adopted in Baroque buildings, and encourage the use of suitable materials and good craftsmanship in their restoration.
The Works Division is offering a limited number of places for individuals interested in pursuing the course. Participants will be required to attend theoretical and practical sessions at the University of Malta for approximately seven to ten hours per week (during office hours).
Subjects taught include analysis of Baroque architectural history, structural behaviour of buildings, construction methods and materials, stereotomy, introduction to fortifications conservation and safety on building sites.
Applications will be received by the University of Malta between Wednesday 19 and Friday 21 July as advertised on the university website www.um.edu.mt. A one time registration fee of Lm150 will apply for applicants not employed with the Works Division.
