New Registrations for work

In April 2006, there were 196 persons who submitted a new registration for work at the Employment and Training Corporation (ETC). In comparison to April 2005 – when new registered persons amounted to 222 – this resulted in a drop of 26 persons (-11.7 per cent).

Of a total of 196 new registrations for work in April 2006, 105 (53.6 per cent) were made by men and 91 (46.4 per cent), by women. Of the new entries on the register, 99 (50.5 per cent) were under 25 years of age. In the comparable month in the preceding year, new registrations from persons under 25 years totalled 124 (55.9 per cent).

Vacancies

In April 2006, a total of 573 vacancies were notified by employers to the state employment agency. The demand for labour was largely made by the private sector: 472 vacancies, 82.4 per cent of total notified vacancies, emanated from private enterprise. When compared to April 2005, this signifies a decrease of 130 notifications.

In April 2006, 429 vacancy notifications asked for full-time workers (74.9 per cent), while the rest – 144 notifications – asked for part-time workers. Several vacancies were for service and clerical workers; these totalled 129 vacancies.

Placements

In April 2006, placements amounted to 153. The majority of these (65.4 per cent) involved persons engaged by the public sector. Many of the placements concerned persons who were employed on a part-time basis (59.5 per cent). The data indicate that 52.3 per cent of placements concerned persons under 25 years of age.

Age and marital status of persons registering for work

In April 2006, there were 4,800 registered unemployed persons who were single, while married ones numbered 2,737. Of older registered unemployed persons, that is, aged 45 years and over, 63.3 per cent were married.
