Online Gaming expected to generate employment

Employment with online gaming companies is expected to increase substantially as the industry continues to expand.

Companies based in Malta have generated a turnover of Lm395 million which amounts to 10 per cent of turnover generated worldwide by the remote gaming industry.

A recruitment open day was organised yesterday by Commercial Services Bureau Ltd on behalf of six locally-based gaming company. The event was well-attended with many young people attracted by the excellent working conditions, a novel job and excellent salaries. A range of posts were offered in customer care, IT and human resources.

There are 150 operators in Malta, between them employing 400 directly and another 400 indirectly. Over the past few years, they have contributed over Lm3m in tax.

Parliamentary Secretary Tonio Fenech said the growth of the industry was a reflection of the government foresight to invest in ICT, even during the dotcom crash.

He said that Malta was an ideal location for gaming companies who could enjoy tax breaks and a very strict regulatory framework expected by reputable firms

CSB business development executive Jonathan Dalli said the open day was aimed at creating awareness of the betting industry and to provide an opportunity for dynamic people to get a very rewarding job.

The event was organised under the patronage of the Lotteries and Gaming Authority.
