Played regularly during the week at the Cottonera Sports Complex, the first division of the H2Only Individual League recently came to an end after playing the second and final round. The respective titles in the Singles and Doubles categories were assigned.

The first division Singles title was won by Kenneth Vella (Pawla Wolves BC), with 14 out of a maximum 16 points. He preserved his unbeaten status throughout the eight matches played, with six wins and two draws to his credit.

The only points dropped by Vella were in the two drawn results against team-mate David Cole, who ended his commitments in second place, one point adrift of the leader. Cole was similarly unbeaten in this competition, with five wins and three draws in his curriculum.

The direct encounter between Vella and Cole brought the curtain down over this division. Before the start of the match, Cole was trailing his opponent by a single point in the table and therefore needed nothing less than a win in order to clinch the title.

He started well, taking the first set 15/12 at the end of a balanced encounter. However, Vella reacted well and won the second set 15/11. This drawn result reflected their first round encounter and was enough for Vella to secure the title.

The final first division Singles table was: K. Vella 14 points; D. Cole 13; T. Xuereb 8; P. Cassar 4 and J. De Giovanni 1.

Cole made up for this setback by taking the first division Doubles title, partnered by Anna Galea. Both players are on the books of Pawla Wolves BC.

Cole / Galea ended their commitments with 13 out of a maximum 16 points, with six wins and a draw on their record. Their only defeat was sustained at the hands of third-placed Tony Xuereb / Martin Camilleri.

The runner-up berth was taken by the father and son duo, Franz and Kenneth Vella, with 9 points to their credit.
