Another polished display by the Maltese girls gave them their second win, and a place in the semi finals. It was another handsome victory, which showed the good preparation that the side is having under coach, Santino Coppa. Andorra were on the receiving end for most of the game.

With Josephine Grima on court from the start, the Maltese team were a confident lot, and they made full use of her presence in the zone. They also exploited their shifting defence to good use, and pulled away from their opponents to lead 12-5, with a Lucienne Bezzina trey. Andorra experienced difficulty against the locals’ aggressive play and fell further behind as Malta ended the session on an 8-2 run.

In the second session the Maltese kept their command on the match, and despite an Andorra trey earlier on, it was Malta who were piling up the points, in a 17-5 run, ending with a Greta Zarb trey. Then the Maltese bench players went on court, and Andorra had a brief respite, only getting points from free throws. Still, Malta held on to their good lead, and at the interval it was a 44-21 score.

After the break there was no let-up for Andorra, as the Malta girls had a good hold on the game. A 12-4 run, with another Zammit trey, set the locals’ minds at rest. Gradually Malta started easing up, with some changes on court, but Andorra were still hit by a further Zammit trey, though they managed to share the exchanges. After three sessions Malta were 63-34 in front.

The locals started the last quarter with their second squad, and Greta Zarb promptly sank a trey. After an Andorran small break, it was Zammit who netted her fourth trey, as the scoring started to die down, with the outcome of the match already known. Gomez had a good spell for Andorra, with her eight consecutive points, as they managed to win the last session, to their satisfaction. Now Malta meet Scotland today, for the top spot in the group, with both sides already assured of a place in the semis.
