Distinction For Drama Centre students

Malta Independent Saturday, 22 July 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

There was an up-beat mood last week at the Malta Drama Centre as students and tutors celebrated the impressive results obtained at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) examinations.

A staggering 85 per cent of juniors, intermediate and senior students obtained distinction grades while the rest hit the merit level. 73 students sat for the LAMDA exams, entering for dramatised verse, devised group drama and solo performances.

“It is most gratifying to see our students obtaining such terrific results”, said Mario Azzopardi, principal at the centre. “We are all thrilled at the outcome of a large–scale project which, for the past two months, turned the centre into a very busy laboratory for inventions and technical skills, something which has been fully recognised by LAMDA’s examiner”, said Mr Azzopardi.

The examiner, Dr Jeffrey Grenfell – Hill, actually complimented the students for their “vital dramatic manners” and the “physically and mentally liberated inventions” they showed during the two-day examination period.

“I saw plenty of imaginative exploration and there were moments of deep, emotional commitment and truth,” wrote Dr Grenfell-Hill.

LAMDA has an excellent reputation not only in training some of the world’s finest actors and theatre technicians, but also in helping students regardless of their background or financial circumstances.
