Justin Falzon, the young Gozitan artist who is currently attending a two-year course at the Lorenzo De’ Medici Art Institute in Florence, is presenting for sale a collection of still-life in the main lobby of the Calypso Hotel, Marsalforn, up to 15 August.
He will exhibit some of his works done in Florence, two of which were chosen and exhibited at the Uffizzi Centre, together with works of other students from different countries. Justin represented Malta with two modern still-life, acryilic on paper, 84x64cms. Both paintings feature two objects each and the colour scheme is between dark and light.
The collection of still-life Justin is presenting at the Calypso Hotel, though small in number, is unique in quality because it forms part of a period when he developed his artistic qualities and established his personal style and the mastering of colours. The various paintings show the creativity and inventiveness of the artist and, although they give the impression that they depict similar objects, they are very different and original. We can say that Justin is on the road to success as he is establishing himself as another up-and-coming artist, one of those who are enriching the list of artists who give an identity to the roots of the cultural and artistic heritage of their native country.
Justin has participated in various collective exhibitions and two solo exhibitions; one at the Torri ta’Kenuna in 2001 and the other at the Hilton, Malta, in January 2006. This last collection consisted of 60 portraits, with the title “In search of the soul: a portrait”.
