Last week, the San Lawrenz Local Council unveiled a monument to the memory of Dun Guzepp Cauchi in Triq ta’ Bieb il-Ghar. This remembrance occasion formed part of the events marking San Lawrenz Day, which also coincided with the 50th anniversary of the death of Dun Guzepp.
Dun Guzepp Cauchi was a priest from San Lawrenz who was “famed” for being a true man of God. A considerable number of people attest gaining spiritual and material favours through his intercession. He was born in 1900, celebrated his first Mass in 1927 and died in 1955. Dun Guzepp had a special devotion towards the Eucharistic, the patron saint and the village of San Lawrenz.
This was what inspired the local council to adopt as a theme for the locality’s day – the love and caring one should have towards his/her native village, by following the reverend father’s examples.
The evening’s programme included poetry by Dun Manwel Cutajar, songs by Chiara, a formal speech and the unveiling of the monument by the Minister for Gozo.
