Folkloristic Evening in Santa Lucija Gozo

Malta Independent Monday, 24 July 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

The Ta’ Klula Folkloristic Foundation, which has recently been set up in Santa Lucija, Gozo is organising a Folkloristic Evening together with a traditional Gozitan Village Meal on 29 July 2006. The aim of this event is to promote the picturesque village of Santa Lucija, as many people are still unaware of its existence.

The aim of the founder members of the foundation – who are Carmen Bellamy, Austin Camilleri, Joseph Bugeja, Joseph Mizzi and Alfred Stellini – is to revive the old traditions and to instil in younger generations, the need to maintain traditions and heritage, as some have ceased to exist.

Santa Lucija, which is the smallest village in the Maltese islands, is also the oldest village – with the caves called Il-Mixta, situated outside the village, where the first inhabitants of Gozo lived.

This special evening which is going to be held in the alleyways and village square, will start at 7.30pm. The cost for this evening is Lm10, including wine and free transport from Mgarr.
