The Malta Peace Council has strongly condemned the Israeli assaults on Lebanon and the barbaric and savage disproportionate reprisals on the Lebanese population.
The council said the ruthless raids of the Israeli war machine had led to the death and injury of unarmed civilians, including many children, the destruction of the infrastructure, the transformation of masses of people into refugees and the flagrant violation of every notion of human dignity.
The international community cannot close its eyes to the mass and continuous terror carried out by the state of Israel, said the council.
The MPC also condemned the United States of America for not officially speaking a single word against the atrocities that Israel is inflicting on the people of Lebanon on a daily basis.
“Despite the worldwide outcry for an immediate end to the conflict, the United States is holding a position against the ceasefire, dismissing it as ‘unrealistic’. On the contrary, the US government is urgently rushing a delivery of bombs and guided missiles to Israel, although this arms shipment has not been announced publicly,” the council said in a statement.
The MPC condemned the attitude taken by the European Union in simply “expressing concern” at the situation and “condemning the attacks on Israel and the abduction of two Israeli soldiers”. The EU, it said, is missing the wood for the trees.
The council added that it supported all regional, international and United Nations diplomatic efforts to negotiate an immediate call for a ceasefire and a cessation of hostilities.
“There are no military solutions. Violence should always be the last resort, never the first. Violent attacks on civilians and the infrastructure on both sides cannot resolve disagreements.
“The MPC supports a two-States solution: a free and independent Palestine and an Israeli state, both equally necessary requisites for peace and security.”
