Twelve Workers receive MCAST certification

Malta Independent Wednesday, 26 July 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

Parliamentary secretary Edwin Vassallo yesterday presented certificates to 12 Mizzi Automotive Service (MAS) employees who completed a 25-hour course at the Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology (MCAST).

The coursework for panel beaters covered topics such as MIG and TIG welding, types of joint, as well as filler metals, both from a theoretical and practical aspect.

MAS garage manager Alfred Micallef said that given the new technologies used in vehicles’ bodies, MAS felt the need to train its employees in this area. Hence, in collaboration with MCAST, a tailor-made course was organised.

Parliamentary secretary Edwin Vassallo said this training programme allowed Mizzi and its employees to become more competitive. MCAST, he said, had trained 400 workers in the last four years.

Mr Vassallo said he hoped that more companies in the Zebbug, Handaq and Mosta industrial estates would provide training for their workers. He praised the merits of lifelong learning which added value to the worker and to his work.
