The Malta-Libyan working group on higher education met in Malta recently. The group was established during Education Minister Louis Galea’s visit to Libya last May.
The Libyan delegation was led by the deputy secretary in the Libyan Ministry for Higher Education Abdelkabir Al Fakhry.
He was accompanied by the rector of Omar El Mukhtar University, Mohamed Sanusi Ben Amer, the rector of the University of Sebha, Mohamed Muftah and Suleiman Khoja. The Libyan ambassador in Malta, Saad A.E. Elshmani, was also present.
The Maltese delegation was led by the Permanent Secretary in the Education Youth and Employment Ministry Frans Borg, Director of Policy Develop-ment and Programmes Micheline Sciberras, Director of EU and International Relations Mario Buttigieg and Executive Officer for International Relations Louise Cutajar Davies.
The working group met Dr Galea and senior officials from the University of Malta and the Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology and definite plans for further collaboration between the countries in the field of higher education were discussed.
It was decided that the two countries should work on a system of transfer of credits between higher education institutions as well as an educational and training programme in English, agriculture, archaeology, Arabic and Euro-Mediterranean programmes.
The working group will meet again in Libya at the beginning of next year.
