A five-year agreement between the Luxol Sports Ground Management Board and the Youth FA for the use of the pitch for the latter association’s matches as from this season, was signed last Thursday.
The association is planning to organise its Under 14 and Under 16 matches at this new facility between September and May. Matches will be played on Saturday afternoons, Sundays (whole days) and even in midweek.
This year coincides with the 25th anniversary of the association. On this occasion and for the first time ever, all the matches from the Under 8 to Under 16 categories will be played on artificial turf pitches on the island. The association organises 1,600 matches every season.
Apart from the Luxol ground, the association will be using the grounds at San Gwann, Tarxien, Hockey Ground, Kordin and St Aloysius. Festivals are planned to be held at the Centenary Stadium, St Patrick, University, Infetti (Birkirkara), Hibs, Floriana and Gudja.
The agreement was signed by Fr Hilary Tagliaferro, president, and Joe Micallef, secretary general, on behalf of the Youth FA, and by Paul Falzon, chairman, and Norman Darmanin Demajo, chief executive officer, on behalf of the Luxol Sports Club. Also present was Alfred Triganza, senior marketing officer of the APS Bank, sponsors of the Youth FA championships.
