17 Months for a mammogram

Malta Independent Sunday, 30 July 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

There is 17-month wait for a mammogram appointment at St Luke’s Hospital. The Radiology Department has hundreds of request forms for investigations that have not yet been processed and a number of critically urgent investigations, such as MRI, CT Scan, Ultrasound, Bone Density Scans take at least six months to be carried out.

Labour spokesman for health, Michael Farrugia, while making known the above cases, also claimed that a number of patients had to have their barium enema postponed because the department had run out of liquid. This, Dr Farrugia said, is unacceptable.

Meanwhile, people who were in the Gynae Ward this week, while praising the staff for their helpfulness, complained about the lack of cleanliness in the wards. The toilets, on the other hand, are spotless.
