A heavily depleted Hibernians opened their commitments in the tournament with a 1-0 win over Pieta Hotspurs yesterday. In the other match, Marsaxlokk and Valletta, both also missing several top players, fought out a 1-1 draw.

In the opener, Hibernians beat Pieta thanks to an E. Agius goal in the first half. In the other match, after a goalless first half, Bogdanovic opened the scoring for Marsaxlokk, but immediately afterwards, Dylan Zarb equalised for Valletta.
