It was very disheartening to read a few days ago that the MBSA has decided to pull out the Maltese national team from the upcoming World Snooker Team Championships due to lack of funds.

Over the past decades snooker has been one of the few, if not the most, sports which has brought honour to the country. Hence, I wonder why a collective effort has not been made by all concerned to ensure another success.

While acknowledging that Government and the Malta Olympic Committee ought to have given much more support, I cannot avert from blaming the MBSA itself. I am sure that they have been well aware of this event for quite some time: yet it seems that no bold effort has been done to lure any sponsorship or any other type of assistance from private firms.

It’s just a case of the prime movers laying back and awaiting indirect aid rather than pulling up their sleeves and being at the forefront of overcoming the wave.

What a real pity…..our snooker heroes have been snookered by their own association!
