Gordon Asciak played superb tennis to win the Men’s Singles event at the VLTC’s Perrier Summer Open 2006 which was held recently at the Vittoriosa Lawn Tennis Club.

Meeting Darryl Delicata, another veteran, Gordon emerged the winner with a 6-0,6-2 scoreline.

Asciak started very strongly in the first set showing some fine touches which were reminiscent of his best. In the second set Delicata tried desperately to stage a comeback, but Asciak continued with his strong play to take the set 6-2 and this year’s event.

The Women’s Singles final pitted Sanya Jukic against Elaine Genovese. Jukic started on top gear and won the first set 6-0. In the second set, though Genovese

offered stiffer opposition, Jucik continued to carry the day by winning with a 7-5 score.

In the Men’s Doubles final, the Delicata brothers, Marcus and Darryl, subdued the challenge of the young duo Simon Camilleri/ Matthew Borg with a 6-4,

6-1 score.

In the Men’s Plate event Bradley Callus beat Suniel Balani 6-3, 6-1.
