Wardens’ Working hours unacceptable – GWU

Malta Independent Wednesday, 9 August 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 19 years ago

The General Workers’ Union (GWU) said that it does not agree with the hours of work imposed on local wardens assigned to the Fgura district.

The Services and Media section of the union sent a letter to Sterling Security, the company employing these wardens, saying that the hours of work imposed on the wardens were damaging and inconvenient.

Under the current roster, some wardens work 13 consecutive hours, some for a number of hours split into three different shifts, and others are being sent on patrol in Marsascala alone after sunset.

The GWU informed Sterling Security that the roster should be changed by not later than Monday and should be similar to other roster systems adopted by the rest of the local wardens employed by the same company.

If the roster is not amended, the GWU said it will have to revert to other measures in the interest of its members.
