Malta Independent Tuesday, 15 August 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

More than 300 young people are currently participating in an activity entitled Summer on the Move, that is being organised by the Malta Sports Council, said Education Youth and Employment Minister Louis Galea yesterday.

Speaking during a visit to the Vikings Sailing Club, Dr Galea remarked that the activities include swimming, surfing and sailing, all intended to make the best of the summer months for those taking part.

The club also offers courses in seafaring activities and also makes use of the MCAST Maritime Institute. It was founded in 1984 and has a substantial number of families among its members.

Later this week, the students will also be participating in a 50-hour sailing marathon organised by the Vikings Sailing Club, with all the money raised going towards The Multiple Sclerosis Society. The general public is invited to attend, give donations and tour the port of Marsamxett on dinghies manned by instructors and other experienced personnel.
