Melita gained their first major points by taking a walkover from Krishna who were plagued with injuries. Melita took the full ten points but still lay bottom of the ladder seven points behind Krishna who are sitting third in the summer league.

In the afternoon game Marsa CC, who have not lost game in the competition, played the Overseas C.C who were on a two-game winning streak.

The Overseas won the toss and elected to bat. Ronnie Sacco, bowling the first over, bowled the first maiden over in the competition. Grant Williams faced that over but made up for it making 53 runs from 32 balls including eight fours.

Williams was caught in the deep by Ronnie Sacco after returning to bat. His opening partner Mike Smith played back to ball from Sacco which struck him on the pads and was given L.B.W. for five runs. Jonathon Tully made 15 runs from 11 balls.

Then came a great partnership from Kieth Abernathy and Richard Newbould who both ran well between the wickets. Abernathy was finally bowled for 15 runs from the partnership of 70 runs. Richard Newbould went on to make his first 50 and ended on 52 runs not out. Marsa bowled 20 wides and extras totalled 35 which helped Overseas post another high score in the competition, that of 178. For Marsa Ronnie Sacco took three wickets while Mike Caruana took two.

Marsa’s reply started off badly losing the first wicket of the first legal ball of the innings. David Newton made seven runs before being bowled.

Alan Kyle batted extremely well making 52 runs retired from 30 balls including nine fours. Mike Caruana also made 52 runs retired including seven fours. Caruana was given a chance when he hit a ball high into outfield which the fielder should have caught but fumbled and dropped the catch. Caruana had only eight runs at the time.

It was a costly drop and would have made a big difference in the outcome of the game. Ronnie Sacco and Jeya Krishna finished of the remaining runs with 21 runs not out and ten runs not out respectively.

The Overseas also bowled too many wides, 35 in total and extras totalled 39. Marsa made the required runs at the end of the 16th over. Mike Smith was the only bowler to take wickets, two in all. Marsa take nine points from the game and are looking favourites to win the league with 45 points. Overseas jump into second place only two points clear of Krishna.
