The Pembroke Athleta Football Nursery have just returned from Bulgaria where the U/11 and the U/14 groups took part in the Dapper Cup tournament by the Plovdiv FA.
The contingent was made up of 42 persons including parents, officials, coaches and players. Both groups played four games in each category plus a friendly game. All games were against Bulgarian teams.
Results for U/14 squad were: 1-1, 2-3, 1-1, 2-1, 1-1. U/11 squad: 0-1, 0-5, 2-1, 3-2, 0-2. The boys gave some very good performances as witnessed by these results.
Besides playing football the boys also went on an excursion on the Balkans where they visited a very old monastery dating from the 12th century. The officials, coaches and boys also enjoyed themselves playing billiards, bowling and badger carting in a sports centre in Plovdiv not far from the hotel.
This was a very positive and educational experience for these two groups, which will also serve as a pre-season preparation.
