Edward Baldacchino Wins the Malta Table Tennis championship for the fifth time

Edward Baldacchino became Malta’s table tennis champion for season 2005/06 when he won the 54th edition of the National Championship at the University complex at Tal-Qroqq between the 23 and 26 June 2006.

In an exciting semi-final in four sets, Baldacchino beat Claudio Tufignio 4 – 2. then, in the final he cruised easily past Peter Borg Cardona 4 – 0, thus winning the local championship for the fifth time.

In the doubles, Baldacchino paired with John Camilleri to clinch the title in an interesting final, beating David Pace and Mark Azzopardi, 3 – 2.

This year was a clean sweep for Edward Baldacchino. He emerged winner in every event organised by the Malta Table Tennis Association. Baldacchino won the first, second, and third ranking tournaments, the Singles Grand Prix, and the newly organised Teams Grand Prix League, participating alongside Stefan Grech and Daniel Bajada. Finally, he was also part of the Banks ROL team that won the First Division Championship.

On the international scene Baldacchino had a very prestigious showing alongside Mark Azzopardi and Simon Gerada, when they represented Malta in the Table Tennis World Championships in Bremen, Germany. The national team advanced up to the semi-final in its section.

The Malta Table Tennis Association held its annual dinner at the Grand Tulip Vivaldi Hotel earlier this month.

After presenting the trophies to the winners, the president, Joe Borg Cardona, presented Edward Baldacchino with a commemorative trophy for his achievement in winning all competitions organised by the association this season.
