Malta Independent Friday, 25 August 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 21 years ago

The second round of the Premier League continues this evening with the top match between Valletta and Floriana.

Apart from the rivalry that exists between these neighbours, both teams are coming from an impressive start in the opening matches, with Floriana beating fancied Hibernians 4-1, whilst Valletta demolished Pieta 5-0.

Joe Grech’s Floriana were in great form in the opening minutes of their match against Hibernians, with youngster Christian Caruana in splendid form.

On their part Valletta had in Argentine Sebestian Monesterolo, a deadly finisher scoring four goals in the process.

Coach Paul Zammit is slowly but surely moulding a good side that can be an outside challenger for the final honours.

The match should attract a good crowd, as both teams can claim the three points at stake.

In this evening’s opening match, newly promoted St. George’s and Marsa face each other after suffering similar minimal defeats in their opening match.

St. George’s were beaten by Sliema, whilst Marsa lost in the dying minutes against Msida after squandering a couple of easy scoring chances.

Both teams are not expected to make radical changes from their first match line ups, although Marsa can make use of their new mid-week signing, Anthony Ewurun who had helped St. George’s win the First Division championship.
