Week six of the current Middlesea Valletta Life National League, being held at the Eden SuperBowl, saw the first major upset of the season as leaders Aercomms were dealt an embarrassing 6-2 beating by La Spigola, the win coming hot on the heels of the latter’s 4-all draw with Fina First in the previous week.
Redwell Heating were the only side to claim all eight points at the expense of Vintage, while there were other six point victories for Fina First over Right Deal, HSBC against Sammy’s Embroideries and also Faces over Sagio Investments. The match between Ramis and Royal Shock ended in a 4-all draw.
There were red faces all round for the leaders of the top flight after their clash with La Spigola, in spite of game one swinging 744-822 in Aercomms’ favour. The defending champs’ opening confidence seemed to melt away during the second of the set however, as La Spigola pulled out all the stops for a great 809-720 win to draw level. The pressure to clinch the match was all on Aercomms in game three, but that seemed to diversely affect them as they were easily beaten 752-661 by La Spigola, whom most would consider to be far lesser opponents. Tiziana Carannante (La Spigola), 585. Ray Falzon Reale (Aercomms), 580.
Redwell Heating were thankful to be the only first division side to claim all eight points this week, with Vintage ending up on the losing side of the score line. After a shaky start to the new season this win may be just the confidence booster Redwell need, being barely troubled by the opposition as the game scores progressed 706-768, 715-791, 718-777. The win helps Redwell Heating climb towards the middle of the classification (eighth), while Vintage lie seventh. Amanda Cini (Redwell Heating), 624, Bowler of the Week. Lawrence Bonnici (Vintage), 562.
Fina First narrowed the gap behind the leaders to four points thanks to their 2-6 win against Right Deal.
Sammy’s Embroideries have had a positive season to date, but suffered a disappointing 2-6 defeat at the hands of HSBC this week.
There was another 6-2 win in favour of bottom side Faces against Sagio Investments (4th), while the match between Ramis and Royal Shock ended in a 4-4 stalemate.
