Registrations for the new Pro Am Snooker tournament are now open and players can register at their own club. All registrations will close on 25 September, while the competition itself will start on Monday 9 October. The final is to be played in the last week of March 2007.
For the 2007 edition there will be a total of Lm400 in prize money. The winner will get Lm200 and the losing finalist Lm100. Those finishing third and fourth will receive Lm50 and Lm25 respectively. There is also going to be a prize of Lm25 for the highest break.
The players are to be classified in six different categories with the highest being the players playing in the Main Tour followed by Top 10 players from the MBSA Official ranking list, Premier, 1st Division, 2nd Division, and 3rd Division, boys, non-league players as one category. Seven points advantage will be given between one category and another to a maximum of 35 points.
The Top 16 players in the Official Pro Am ranking list will be seeded. These are Alex Borg, Simon Camilleri, Guzi Grech, Duncan Bezzina, Thurston Grixti, Frans Mintoff, Simon Zammit, Jean Pierre Woods, Clint Grima, Chris Azzopardi, Manolito Grech, Richard Lewis, Arthur Cachia, Marlon Bugeja, Peter Pace and Philip Ciantar.
Previous winners of the Pro Am are Alex Borg in 2005 and Simon Camilleri in 2006.
Pro Am Snooker is also organising a national Under 15 league. Players born after 1 January 1991 can register at their own club. For further details one has to phone the organiser on 99441107. This year, the tournaments are being sponsored by La Stalla Restaurant and Bank Of Valletta.
