An impressive Neptunes’ display in the first session totally annihilated any San Giljan hopes of staging a shock win over the neo-champions.
The reds, without Karl Galea and Edward Cachia, opened the encounter with all guns blazing and beat Dean Camilleri, in the Saints’ goal, nine times in the initial eight minutes.
Croat Dubravko Simenc netted a hat-trick in this session (apart from his leadership and assists) while team-mates Matthew Pisani and Steve Camilleri had a respective brace.
Although still messing their man-ups, San Giljan improved in the second session and had goals from poker-boy Claudio Spiteri de Barro and Anthony Galea.
In this session Neptunes scored only one goal from David Camilleri.
With Neptunes never in danger, the third session was the most balanced. The Saints had a Marko Cuk brace and other goals from De Barro and Galea and came within four goals of their neighbours at 12-8.
However the margin increased once again as the reds scored four in a row starting with a Steve Camilleri goal which had class written all over it after he had the better of Zammit’s defensive cover.
Michele Stellini and Pisani closed the day’s tally for the winners with De Barro grabbing the game’s final goal and San Giljan’s last of the season.
Neptunes will now face Sirens in tomorrow’s final aiming to make it an en-plein of honours this season and five cups in a row.
