A seminar was convened recently where the format of the Under 16 and Under 14 leagues for season 2006-2007, which are both sponsored by APS Bank, were discussed. The season kicks off next Friday 8 September.
Under 16 League Section A
This league will be played over two rounds. Teams taking part are Floriana, Paola H/Sliema W. Pieta II, San Gwann, Mellieha, Hamrun S, St Patrick, B’Kara, Melita, Luxol and Qormi. The winner of this Section will be declared as Champion of the APS Bank League for season 2006-2007, and teams finishing in the last three places will be relegated to Section B for next season.
Under 16 League Section B
This Section will also be played over two rounds and the teams taking part are Zurrieq
Balzan Y, Tarxien R, Mosta, Valletta, Fgura U, M’Xlokk, Naxxar, Sirens, Mgarr, Msida and Sta Venera.
The winner of this section will be declared Section B winner for season 2006-2007 and together with teams finishing in second and third place will be promoted to Section A for the next season, while teams who finish in the last three positions will be relegated to Section C for the next season.
Under 16 League Section C
This Section will be played over one round and 19 teams are taking part: Attard, B’Bugia WM, Dingli S, Ghaxaq, Gudja, Gzira, Kirkop, Lija-Iklin, Luqa SA, Marsa, Mqabba, Pembroke, Rabat, Senglea, Siggiewi, St George’s, Zejtun, Xghajra, and Zebbug R. The winner of this Section will be declared Section C winner for season 2006-2007 and together with teams finishing in second and third position will be promoted to Section B for the next season.
Under 14 League Section A
Floriana, Valletta, Paola H, Melita, B’Kara, Mosta, Pieta H, Sliema W, Rabat, Luxol, San Gwann and St Patrick are the teams taking part and will play over two rounds. The winner of this Section will be declared champions of the APS Bank League for season 2006-2007 while teams who finish in the last three positions will be relegated to Section B for the next season.
Under 14 League Section B
This Section will also be played over two rounds and teams taking part are Naxxar L., Mgarr U, Mellieha, St Venera, Tarxien, Kirkop, Attard, Sirens, Hamrun S, Pembroke, Zebbug R. and M’Xlokk.
The team finishing on top will be Section B winner for season 2006-2007 and together with teams finishing in second and third place will be promoted to Section A for the next season. Teams finishing in the last four positions will be relegated to Section C for the next season.
Under 14 League Section C
This Section will be played over one round as 17 teams are taking part. They are Balzan, B’Bugia WM, Dingli S, Fgura U, Ghaxaq, Gudja, Gzira, Marsa, Lija-Iklin, Mqabba, Msida, Qormi, Senglea, Siggiewi, St George’s, Kalkara and Zurrieq.
The winner of this Section will be declared Section C winner for season 2006-2007 and together with teams finishing in second, third and fourth place will be promoted to Section B for the next season.
Under 16 Knock-Out competition
As in the previous season, 42 teams will be taking part. There will be a preliminary round for 20 teams which were drawn from a common ballot, after which there will be a first phase a second phase, quarter-finals, semi-finals and the final.
During the preliminary round, first phase and second phase no extra time will be played if a game ends in a draw and penalties will be taken to determine the winner. Extra time will only be played from the quarter-finals’ stage onwards and also penalties will be taken if a game ends in a draw after extra time.

Under 14 Knock-Out competition
This will be played at the end of the season. Only eight teams will be taking part, and these will be the first three placed in Section A, first three placed in Section B and first two placed in Section C. No teams will be seeded as there will be a common ballot.
