Two men were arrested after a cargo box carrying 9,500 ecstacy pills was intercepted yesterday evening, the police said.

Following investigations that were taking place in the last few days, the police searched a cargo box which had arrived from the United Kingdom and found the drugs hidden there.

The two men, both aged over 50, were arrested and are being held pending further investigations.

The police said that the raid was successful thanks to liaison with officials from the Customs Department.

Magistrate Dr Consuelo Scerri, who was informed about the case, appointed various experts to help in the inquiry.
