Last season’s double winners Hibernians won the Women’s Super Cup.
They beat rivals Birkirkara by three clear goals in an entertaining match played on Tuesday at the new Luxol Stadium with synthetic turf in front of a sizeable crowd.
After a balanced first half which ended goalless, Hibernians underlined their superiority on the resumption with well-taken goals scored by the experienced Dione Tonna and striker Ylenia Carabott (twice) to win the Super Cup for the first time. Birkirkara had won the first edition of the Super Cup last season.
The match was well controlled by Mr Mohamed Khalid.
At the end of the match, MFA Vice President and Chairman of the Women’s Football Committee, Mr John Farrugia presented the coveted Trophy to the Hibernians skipper Tessie Agius.
