Hamrun Spartans looked set for their first win of the season as they were beating St Patrick with three minutes to go. But two quick goals in the space of a minute gave St Patrick their second consecutive victory as the Spartans stumbled to yet another defeat.
The match never really reached high standards and the Spartans were deservedly ahead till the fatal minute that turned the match in favour of Gyorev's boys. As was the case a week ago, the introduction of Gilbert Scerri proved to be the winning trump for the yellows, even though Scerri only sparked in a penalty incident.
The Spartans tired out in the final minutes and lost a match they should have won with more attention. This defeat puts Marinov's team under pressure as they languish dangerously at the bottom of the table.
St Patrick started on a top note creating three scoring chances in the first two minutes of the match. Coleiro tested Falzon with a bombshell, and seconds later Kenneth Abela's header was blocked off the line by Kevin Borg. From the resultant corner, Matthew Fleri Soler's header went inches wide.
After this promising start, the Saints faded away with Hamrun playing better in midfield with Rupert Mangion in top from. On 20 minutes defender Eric Saliba saved a certain goal blocking a Sultana header.
Minutes later Rupert Mangion passed to Steve Meilaq whose shot went slightly wide. On 32 minutes Hamrun took the lead when Meilaq did all the spade work on the left and crossed to Debattista whose shot was only partially saved by Azzopardi and Stefan Sultana scored the Spartans' first goal of the season.
The Spartans were now playing better and could have added a second goal near the end, with Meilaq going near on two occasions.
For the second period coach Gyorev introduced Gilbert Scerri, hoping the midfielder would do the magic trick as in the Saints' last outing against Naxxar.
However St Patrick failed to produce the expected reaction, even though they went close on 65 minutes with Timotic clearing off the line a header by Fleri Soler destined for the back of the net. The Spartans continued to control with relative ease as the Saints seemed unable to organise a decent scoring opportunity.
However in the last minutes of the game St Patrick scored two goals in quick succession to turn the tide in their favour.
On 87 minutes Kenneth Abela received a long ball from defence, with the Hamrun defence caught napping, Abela strode forward to beat Falzon with a low shot for his fifth goal of the season.
Sixty seconds later Scerri left his mark when he dribbled his way inside the area and was tripped by Kevin Borg, with the excellent Joe Attard awarding the penalty. Mark Tanti sent Michael Falzon the wrong way the give St Patrick an incredible victory.
