Mosta returned to winning form beating San Gwann in a low profile match. Mosta deserved their win as they were the better team all round. Philip Camilleri played a blinder, and substitute Chris Pace left a very good impression.

Striker Rufai is slowly but surely fitting in well in Carbonaro’s side, whilst Ives Bilocca had a rather quite morning. San Gwann are surely heading for trouble this season. Their well below par performance yesterday confirmed their sorry state and player coach Danilo Doncic has a hard task ahead of him. The ex-Sliema and Valletta striker is failing to give the side the expected boost from a player of such calibre. The inclusion of Zammit Fava in the heart of defence consolidated this department, but San Gwann still have a lot of problems to solve especially in attack.

Mosta dominated the first half with San Gwann unable to create scoring chances. Mosta took an early lead on ten minutes when Philip Camilleri passed to Agius who crossed to Rufai who first-timed into the net. Mosta continued to dominate and Deguara slightly missed the target minutes later.

However Mosta failed to produce more scoring chances even though they kept constant pressure on their opponents.

San Gwann’s only shot at goal in the first half came from Karl Sciberras near the end of the first half, with his shot going inches wide.

The second half started with Philip Camilleri going near with a dipper from the edge of the area.

However on 70 minutes Philip Camilleri was not to be denied when he found the back of the net from the edge of the area with a well taken goal. Minutes later San Gwann goalkeeper Spiteri saved his side from further trouble when he brilliantly saved a close range shot by Rufai.

The match dragged on with Mosta controlling with ease San Gwann’s weak resistance, with Mosta gaining three precious points to join St Patrick in second place.
