St Andrew’s-Balzan 0-2

This was a deserved win for Charles Borg Sant’s team Balzan Youths who assured themselves of the three points in the opening 13 minutes. After just two minutes they broke the deadlock through a dubious Malcolm Tirchett penalty and, in the 13th minute, an own-goal by Joseph Sant Fournier put them 2-0 ahead. The Saints created their best chances through Mark Anthony Muscat and Jeremy Gatt Coleiro whose attempts were cleared off the goal line. At the other end Balzan were denied on a number of occasions by Saints’ keeper Rueben Cini.

Gudja-Lija 1-0

Gudja staged an upset when they managed to defeat Lija in a match which the latter dictated throughout the 90 minutes. Gudja’s winning goal was a beauty scored by Chris Grech in the 34th through a volley from the edge of the penalty area. Lija created various goal scoring opportunities but were denied by Gudja’s promising keeper Glen Zammit.

Dingli-B’Bugia SP 2-1

This was an excellent match with B’Bugia being the best team during the first period and taking the lead after just four minutes through James Galea. They were close on other occasions through Vince Camilleri, John Paul Barbara and Ronnie Celeste. After the break Dingli took the initiative and they managed to equalise on 76 minutes as Jeffrey Zammit’s corner-kick was headed in by Roderick Spiteri. Dingli then missed a sitter through Jeremy Agius but just before the final whistle they managed to score the winning goal through substitute Roderick Farrugia.

BoV Div. III:

Gzira-Siggiewi 4-2

This was a deserved win for the Maroons with Siggiewi sharing the exchanges during the first period but were completely dominated after the interval. Gzira took the lead on 23 minutes through Kevin Agius but four minutes later Chris Bugeja equalised for Siggiewi. Gzira regained the lead in the 56th minute through Claude Grech and made it 3-1 in the 65th minute as Keith Bonello beat Vella with a low shot. On 74 minutes Antonio Camilleri converted a penalty to increase Gzira’s lead with Siggiewi scoring another consolation goal in the 85th minute through Pierre Spiteri. Siggiewi ended the match with ten players when Godfrey Camilleri was sent off for retaliation.

Ghaxaq-Pembroke A 1-1

This was a monotonous match especially during the first period with only one worthwhile scoring opportunity which was wasted by Pembroke’s Robert Zammit in the 42nd minute. Eight minutes into the second-half Ghaxaq took the lead through Kevin Gambin’s header with Pembroke coming back on 72 minutes as Simon Buhagiar headed in a deserved equaliser. Pembroke wasted an easy opportunity late in the match through Andre Cachia.
