Not Enough awareness of Equal Opportunities Act – KNPD

Malta Independent Thursday, 28 September 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

The National Commission for People with a Disability (KNPD) launched an information booklet on the Equal Opportunities Act yesterday, that is aimed at creating greater awareness of this important piece of legislation.

Even though the law was approved by Parliament in January 2000, there are still many people who do not know of its existence, said KNPD executive director Fred Bezzina.

KNPD chairman Joseph Camilleri stressed the importance of lodging a complaint with the organisation or entity involved, before reporting it to the KNPD.

KNPD will launch an awareness campaign, co-funded by the EU, on Friday to help organisations and entities learn more about the law and its implementation.

A meeting for NGOs will also be held on Friday at 6pm at the Mediterranean Conference Centre. Those who wish to can collect a copy of the booklet from the KNPD office in St Venera or download a copy from www.knpd.org
