The Naxxar Coast Road was listed as the road in which the most traffic contraventions in 2023, totalling 13,748, information tabled in Parliament shows.

Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri was replying to a parliamentary question made by PN MP Jerome Caruana Cilia, who asked for the top 10 roads in Malta where citations have been issued.

Camilleri tabled the information, which lists the number of citations issued in each road, including those issued via speed cameras. The Naxxar Coast Road, was listed as the road with the most contraventions in 2023, with 13,748.

The second road with the highest number of contraventions on it was that of Triq in-Nutar Zarb, with 6,920. Mikiel Anton Vassalli Road in St Julian's ranked third, with 5,825 contraventions.

There were 5,712 contraventions by drivers on Triq Dun Karm, Birkirkara, whilst 4,188 contraventions were at the Malta International Airport road in Gudja.

Barrani Road in Zejtun (ZTN1 - To ZTN) was listed as sixth in the list, with 3,790 contraventions. The Ghaxaq bypass saw 2,999 contraventions.

Mdina Road in Zebbug saw 2,909 contraventions, while there were 2,855 contraventions on the Sliema Front.

The tenth on the list was Sliema's Tower Road, where there were 2,843 contraventions.

Caruana Cilia also asked for a list of the top 10 roads which saw the highest number of contraventions in the first three months of 2024.

Naxxar's Coast Road topped the list again, with 2,369 contraventions, followed by Birkirkara's Dun Karm Road, with 2,144 contraventions.

Constitution Road in Mosta ranked third this year, with 2,118 contraventions. Mikiel Anton Vassalli Road in St Julian's saw 1,912 contraventions.

The other five roads included a street without an official name in Attard, between Mdina Road and Belt Valletta Road, Triq Nutar Briffa in Attard, Barrani Road in Zejtun, Mdina Road in Zebbug, Mdina Road in Qormi, and Triq l-Esportaturi Mriehel in Birkirkara
