Malta Independent Wednesday, 4 October 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

Tomorrow, the Sala Isouard at the Manoel Theatre will be the venue for a concert by the Pierrot Lunaire Ensemble Wien that will formally launch the International String Orchestra Festival, taking place between 8 and 15 April 2007.

At the festival, talented string players from across the globe will meet in a stimulating, productive and relaxed environment, under the guidance of a unique selection of top international professional musicians. The event will be held under the patronage of President Edward Fenech Adami.

The concert to be given by the PLEW, which consists of five musicians: flute, clarinet, violin, violoncello and piano, is part of the Labyrinthmaker Platform, a launch pad for contemporary chamber music that promotes creative exchange between composers and performers around the world, giving them a unique opportunity to familiarise themselves with one another and their work.

Karl Fiorini, who is at the forefront of this project, sees this network as a bridge between diverse cultures to further the valid artistic exchange of musical ideas and concepts. The concert will consist of pieces for various instrumental combinations by composers from Italy, Brazil, Malta, Spain, the USA and Israel. It will also launch the logo of the festival by graphic artist John Demanuele.

Reservations for the concert can be made at the Manoel Theatre booking office, tel. 2124-6389, email [email protected]
