The Maltese athletes continued with their positive results in the Turin European Youth Games of Special Olympics when yesterday their haul consisted of three gold and four silver medals.

On the previous day, they had won a bronze medal in the bocci discipline.

Maria Wetz triumphed in the 25m breast stroke to win gold, while Charmaine Mifsud and Mark Zammit Cutajar obtained silver medals in the different categories.

In the game of bocci, Justin Spiteri won the gold in the individual competition after beating Svavar Helderson of Iceland 12-4 in the final. Joseph Tanti won a silver medal in another division.

In athletics, Ishmael Falzon won gold in the 200m – his sixth gold medal since he started taking part in Special Olympics these last few years. Sarah Caruana won a silver medal in the 200m for women with another good performance.

Yesterday, AC Milan and Brazil football star Kaka was among the several sporting personalities who paid a visit to the Games.
