The stock of motor vehicles rose by 1,445 between June 2005 and June 2006 to stand at 275,800, the National Statistics Office said yesterday.
At the end of June, the stock of licensed motor vehicles stood at 275,800. Of these, 75.9 per cent were private vehicles, while commercial vehicles made up 16.3 per cent.
New licences
New licences issued during the second quarter of 2006 amounted to 3,558. Private vehicles accounted for 2,440 new licences, or 68.6 per cent of the total. In this quarter, private vehicles falling within class 1 (<1300cc) registered the highest increase.
This class accounted for 1,525 new licences in April-June 2006, while vehicles in class 2 (1301-1449cc) accounted for 293. Compared to the first quarter, the total number of newly-licensed new motor vehicles registered a significant increase of 679 or 40.9 per cent.
The total number of newly-licensed used motor vehicles registered a small increase of 26 vehicles or 2.2 per cent when compared with the previous quarter.
