Last Sunday saw the end of the first round of the Simpatia Crai tournament which is currently being played at Tennis Club Kordin.

This annual tournament, played on a Round Robin basis between six teams, is kindly sponsored by Mr and Mrs Joe Vella of Mimosa Street G’Mangia.

Team “F”, captained by Darren Buhagiar, is leading the table on 51 points that is, 12 points ahead of the second team in the table.

This huge lead is due to the large score obtained against Team “E” on the first day of the tournament which Darren won by 12 sets to 4. Third is Mario Ricci on 38, fourth Mary Xuereb with 37, Dave Elden is fifth on 36 and Joseph Vella is sixth on 35.

With another round to go, all the six teams stand a chance of qualifying to the semi-finals stage and a great battle is envisaged in the remaining five encounters of the first stage.
