Malta Independent Tuesday, 10 October 2006, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

Massimo Cremona has started the new season on a high note, as he returned to the Number One spot in the world rankings for September.

In June he reached the first place for the first time, but having a rest period in the summer, during which he missed out the Grand Prix of Spain in Barcelona and the Major of Austria in Mattesburg, he was overlapped by Dutchman Verhagen for the months of July and August.

As ranking points are deducted from the past year, Cremona found himself again on Top of the first ranking list of the season with 3,088. Thirteen points behind is Dutchman Verhagen 2,942.0 while in third place there is Portuguese Guimares with 2,319.50points.

Cremona said: “I am looking very positive for the new season, it’s again going to be a very hard season, and I am training hard to reach my objectives which, until December 2006, are clear. In the last week end of this month, I want to win the Champions League with my new club Perugia in Lisbon: then, in November, there is the FISTF Masters between the Top 12 players in the world which is going to be held in Malta, and finally I want to finish year 2006 as Number One player in the world ranking List.”
